Miren

In July, Miren did not do well on a hearing test that she had at her well check.  After months of allergy treatments, waiting, and testing...the doctor decided that she has a congenital hearing problem.   She has unilateral, low-frequency, sensorineural moderate-severe hearing loss.   This past Friday, she got her first hearing aid.  She was very excited that she got to choose a red hearing aid with a red glitter ear mold.  She is very excited about it and has been enjoying showing it off to others.  And we are very excited that she seems to be doing so well with it and that it has a good warranty :).  Her transition to wearing it has been very smooth.  She has been amazed at what she can hear that she didn't hear before.  Andy and I have noticed that she seems more aware of everything that is going on around her, and she seems happier.  She has been bouncing around everywhere.  There have been many emotions that Andy and I have experienced in this process.  I feel regret that she has had this her whole life and it has taken us 5 years to be able to help her, but I am also so thankful for the medical care we have received and the technology that now allows her to hear so much better.  What a blessing!  

And now it's on to the next thing.  Because of the nature of her hearing loss, to best serve her at school, she will also need a Personal Frequency Modulation (FM) System.  This will allow her to hear the teacher better.  This will likely be provided through the special ed department in the public school near her Christian school.  So her audiologist is starting the process for this.
